new year

New Year is always a time when people make false promises of a thinner/healthier/morally improved version of themselves... I reckon live how you want to, embrace it and why not?! Too much time is wasted wishing you were something else but there is no better version of yourself than YOU BEING YOU. Be happy and enjoy life.

Happy New Year!

fanny and the cave

However rude this sounds, I'm actually talking about a wonderful, special place (no really, not what you're thinking!) that is Fanny and the Cave. The place to go if you want see, be close to, touch, dress up and buy 90's fashion in an exclusive and underground showroom. As well as being a genius showroom owner and inspiration, Fanny has also styled a number of spectacular shoots, which you can see on the website here. Surely a must for any stylist worth their salt, what I would give to get inside that cave and delve into the wondrous things it beholds..!

Visit www.fannyandthecave.com to revel in some dream-like clothing. Meanwhile feast your eyes on this lot.

hair scare?

Thank god textured hair is looking to be a hot trend soon - I can let my frizzy dry hair free and be seen as fully on it! Hooray!! OK so essentially, I think it is supposed to be expertly textured but I'm expanding and taking it next level... I think Prada did it best.

And are using it in the AW/SS campaign.

Big hair = big news!

what a load of...

...RUBBISH. For those who haven't heard of this magazine (and where exactly have you been?) Rubbish takes style and fashion with the largest pinch of salt, while still managing to make great observations and to be relevant in a fun and upbeat style. Topshop has teamed up with them in the past to encourage fashion-recycling, which is a feat in itself as there was no 'you must buy more Topshop clothes' mantra in sight.

After all, there are huge problems going on in the world besides what is on-trend for SS10 or how we are going to get our hands on a perfectly sheer, nude coloured dress which still manages to keep us warm for all this cold weather we're having. Indulge yourself in an entertaining bit of RUBBISH once in a while - you never know, one man's trash is another man's treasure...

my first fashion shoot

Throughly excited, I set off to help out on my very first fashion shoot to shoot some covers and a fashion story for the magazine I am interning for. What a lot of hard work goes into something as huge as this! One jet plane, about 40 pairs of shoes, 15 shirts, dresses, Ralph Lauren trouser suits, a Porsche, one Burberry mac, stunning pieces of jewellery (including a gorgeous Lara Bohinc necklace that I wanted so badly), sunglasses, some amazing Vivienne Westwood, a very skilled photographer and countless others made up this special - and looong - shoot. Below are just some of the behind-the-scenes photos I managed to snap between wardrobe and styling duties...

The VW coat that had everyone drooling!

Maximum credit due to our brave models who braved the sub-zero temperatures whilst still managing to look outstanding, as well as photographer-cum-handyman Andre who saved the day with a manly display of jumplead-fashioning when the Porsche battery died!

house of holland

Love these tights from Henry (House of) Holland!

Get yours now from http://www.prettypolly.co.uk/ - there are some with little HOH houses on them, not so sure about those if I'm honest though...

model watch - freja beha

Freya Beha, I love her most with the short wild hair!

For Korean Numero by Dusan Reljiin and for UK Vogue (Sept 09) by Javier Vallhonrat

Naturally stunning off duty

Backstage at Erin Wasson RVCA with Irina and in a leather bound strap and mask ensemble.

Multi-tattooed perfection, Freja has opened shows for the likes of Christian Lacroix and Balenciaga. Making her debut in 2005 at the fall shows for Prada, Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton, this Danish beauty has appeared in countless editorials for countless international magazines and reportedly loves her tattoos so much she has it written into her contract that she is allowed to have as many as she wants (she even has one on her neck - hardcore!) Hot.

get set

Perfect getting ready to go out tune.

Wow! (Choose leather leggings, chained up biker boots and a cropped sequinned jacket over a 50s style bralet...)

really wild footwear

I sometimes wish I was brave enough to indulge myself and splash out, spending £150 on a pair of shoes such as these fine ASHISH Animal Print wedge shoe boots - but I'm just not! Sad, as these are absolutely amazing and just the right amount of leopard, in a less conventional form than top or tights...

Am thinking of trying a 'not-quite-as-good-but-as-good-as-I-can-do-with-no-money' fix it job. Get a pair of leopard print socks, fold them back over some much too ordinary boots and you have a makeshift, cheaper (and, I admit, rather less glamourous!) version. Just make sure you try this in the evening, preferably in a dimly lit bar. And don't let anyone look too closely!

sophia kokosalaki ss10

Sophia Kokosalaki's Spring/Summer 2010 collection floated down the catwalk at Paris fashion week in October; drawing on her heritage, white and nude coloured toga slip dresses made from sumptuous silk were a delight - and even more so when this silk is juxtaposed with her loose fitting, elasticated waist leather shorts (I need a pair of those in my life, a more sophisticated and elegant version of my bloomers...) With a ridiculously good eye for detail *note origami style dress detailing and pleating, silk chiffon drapery and sexy short volume* culminating in a tough-pretty leather jacket covered in pearls for the final look, Kokosalaki looks able to continue keeping her trademark flowing look fresh and current.

And this stack of gold fits in beautifully to accessorise the collection.

jimmy choo for you!

14th November - get yourself to the nearest H&M for a much more affordable slice of Choo.

Watch your back - it'll be brutal!

Tuesday 3 November 2009

that's magic?!

Watching Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee judge a 'Britain's Best Sausage' Competition... how very BIZARRE. That woman is insanely glamourous though, even whilst having to eat her way through the best part of a whole pig!

Err... like I said - WEIRD.

fashion swop

Wish you were here has just finished and the month long switchover of the fashion capitals that are New York and London proved to be a success. Block parties, guerilla fashion shows, NY-style markets and lots of bagels brought the Lower East Side to Carnaby; favourite pop up shops include Hairy Mary's Vintage (the winner), In God We Trust, Kaight (mad props for being eco and sustainable) and Still Life. London rocked it in the Big Apple with tea parties, Brit bands and eco-fashion and vintage catwalks - show 'em how it's done London!

this IS it

Just saw 'This Is It'... wow, that show was going to be amazing. Go and see the film for a glimpse of what was going to be, the musical genius (and ultimate strangeness) of MJ and the brilliant outfits he wears. Balmain jacket, Alessandro Dell'Acqua sequined gold harem pants, skinny orange Dior Homme jeans - and these were just rehearsal outfits! Stylist Rushka Bergman, who first styled the star in 2007 for Italian Vogue was one of those responsible, along with NY fashion and costume designer Zaldy and his longtime designers Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins, for the outfits in the film and for what, undeniably, would have been a reintroduction of MJ as a fashion icon.

Couldn't find any pictures of the gold trousers - they were spectacular though!
